Report
Savings Bank in Jindřichův Hradec was built on the spot of three small 19 th century dwelling houses opposite to the cloister just on the border of the old town historic centre, which is listed as National monument. City walls, pulled down in nineteenth century left free space, which was never shaped and completed. Street connecting the site with the Great square in the very centre of the old town is a succession of streets and squares which follows each other in short distances. To end this succession of spaces with distinctive feature the new building was pushed far back behind the street line so that new square was formed and shape of the place completed. Design of the building proper is based on diagonally placed volumous main hall around which the whole house is centered. Quatrofoil of wings around the hall devides the bulk of the building into smaller volumes, the scale and size of which corresponds with of surroundings. Striped external facing, architectural details, flat attic behind which the glazed pyramid reflects pitched roofs of neighbourhood and natural colours of used materials help the building to fit in and make the Savings Bank a counterweight and rather equal partner to the dominating church of the cloister.
